swimming pool times and information
This new state-of-the-art facility boasts two pools - a 25 metre, eight-lane swimming pool and teaching pool with spectator provision.
It also has a large changing village (unisex) with Changing Places provision (a height adjustable changing bench, a peninsular toilet and a ceiling hoist) and user controlled pool pod for disabled access into the pool.
The main pool is 25 metre x 17 metre, with a depth range of 1 metre to 1.8 metre. The learner pool is 16.6 metre x 7 metres and has a constant depth of 0.9 metres. Different session types are available for people who want to use the pool including: public, adult only, family swim and disability swim sessions.
Lockers are available in various sizes which are £1 coin returnable.
Pre-booking is not required for our general swimming sessions (public, lane, adult lane, quiet, family, family fun disability). Pre-booking is recommended for our parent and toddler fun session, ladies only swim and aquafit sessions.
Session type

Adult lane swim: For adults who want to do lane swimming, who are competent swimmers and can do continuous lengths. Entry for children aged 15 and below will be at the managers discretion.

Lane swimming: For adults and children over eight years of age who are competent swimmers and can do continuous lengths.

Public swim: Available to all members of the public. Please note: During the school holidays, children participating in Free Swimming must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult aged 18 years and above. The accompanying adult does NOT need to swim unless the child is under 8 years of age. If children aged 8 and over attend the pool unaccompanied by an adult, they may still swim but this will be charged at the standard rate. Free swimming QR codes can be used in this session.

Family swim (families only): For responsible adults with children only. A responsible adult aged 18 years and above must be present in the pool during this session. Free swimming QR codes can be used in these sessions during the school holidays. Children aged 8 years and over are allowed in the learner pool when attending with family during this session.

Ladies only session: Available to ladies only. Please note that a male lifeguard and male instructor may be on duty during this session.

Saturday family fun disability swim: This session runs all year round and is for adults and children with disabilities and their families. Free swimming QR codes cannot be used in these sessions during the school holidays.

Family fun disability swim: For people with disabilities, special educational needs, ASD and their families. Free swimming QR codes can be used in this session.

DBLeisure float swim: Available to all members of the public. Please note: During the school holidays swimmers must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult aged 18 years and above. The accompanying adult does NOT need to swim unless the child is under 8 years of age. Free swimming QR codes cannot be used for this session.

Quiet swim: A swim without music on the poolside. Available to all members of the public. Please note, other activities (swimming lessons and lane swimming) also take place in the main pool during this session.

Please note: On the following Saturdays, our 2:30pm swims will start at 3.45pm: 7 December, 11 January, 8 February, 8 March.
Please note: On Friday 20 December, the Ladies only session at 5.45pm - 6.45pm will not include aquafit. Swimming and sauna facilities will still be available. We apologise for the inconvenience.
Family fun disability sessions
School holiday session times at Duncan Edwards
Our Family fun disability sessions run during the school holidays and offer the chance to enjoy swimming in a supportive and friendly environment. The sessions are for people with disabilities, special educational needs, ASD and their families.
Day and time: Wednesdays 2.45pm - 4.30pm (during the school holidays).
Please be aware that this is not a coached session and children under the age of eight must be accompanied in and out of the water by a responsible person aged at least 16 years old.
Free swimming QR codes can be used in these sessions during the school holidays.
Saturday fun disability sessions
Session times at Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre
Our Saturday fun disability sessions offer the chance to enjoy swimming in a supportive and friendly environment. The sessions are suitable for adults and children with disabilities and their families.
Sessions take place all year round* at Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre and run weekly. Booking a place is recommended and guarantees you a place. You can book a place by calling the centre on 01384 812800 (option 1) and paying over the phone. Alternatively, you can just turn up on the day - however this does not guarantee a place.
Day and time: Saturdays 1.15pm - 2.15pm*
Please be aware that this is not a coached session and children under the age of eight must be accompanied in and out of the water by a responsible adult.
Free swimming QR codes cannot be used in these sessions during the school holidays.

Lane swimming etiquette
To ensure that your lane swimming session is a pleasant one, we would be grateful if you could adhere to the following rules:

Please comply with centre conditions of entry and any poolside signage

Please follow guidance given by the lifeguard

Choose the correct lane for your ability - slow, fast or medium paced

Be willing to switch lanes if your swimming speed is not similar to others in the lane

Wait until the swimmers have turned and pushed off before entering the pool
-
Swim clockwise / anticlockwise according to the lane that you are in

Be aware of others swimmers entering the pool

If you have to rest please do so in the corner of the lane, allowing other swimmers to pass safely

Be conscious of oncoming swimmers and only overtake when it is safe to do so

Show courtesy and consideration to others at all times

Please note that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated
Swimming rules

All persons aged 8 and over may enter the pools unaccompanied (except family swimming sessions). Please see ‘Session types’ above to ensure you attend the appropriate session.

All children under 8 years of age must be accompanied into the water by an adult or responsible person over 16 years of age. One adult may accompany up to two children under 8.

If your baby is under a year old, it is recommended that you limit your time in the water to 30 minutes maximum. Babies lose heat more quickly than adults, so they shouldn't stay in the pool for too long

Family swim sessions are only open to responsible adults with children. A responsible adult aged 16 years and above must be present in the pool during these sessions.
Useful information

During peak periods and free swimming sessions the centre is busier than normal and therefore a queueing system may be in operation. Please be advised that queuing may take place outside the front of the building. Please ensure you wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions.

Lockers - customers will require a £1 coin to operate the lockers which is returnable once the locker is opened. Please ensure that you collect your coin from the lock before leaving the locker.
